The Role
Overview
Raise, place, and unite structural steel members on construction sites.

Tasks
-Offloads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator. -Pull or pry steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device. -Practice safety rules. -Ensure that all reinforcing material is in its proper position so that it receives its intended structural load. -Set up framework of building by positioning steel girders or other structural elements and then bolting them into place or prepares them for permanent bolding and/or welding. -Set up and break down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members. -Work performed in confined areas -Report to and assist immediate supervisor. -Accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift. -Determine number, sizes, shapes and location of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches or oral directions. -Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to life and place steel member. -Perform quality work as determined by project specifications. -Fastens steel members to cable of hoist. -Guide member or ride on member in order to guide it into position.

What You Bring
-Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company. -Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.) -Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc. -Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.). -Work performed at low and/or high elevations -Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy. -Excessive humidity, rain, etc. -Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials. It is recommended to get assistance to lift items over 50 lbs. Check with your project supervisor or project safety director. -Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation. -Follow verbal and written instructions. -Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required. -Must work well as part of a team. -Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members. -Written pre-employment qualification test. -One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level). -Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.). -Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time. -Safe use of hand & power tools.
