The Role

Overview

Assist fire protection engineers in designing, analyzing, and implementing fire safety systems.

Tasks

-Receive direction as needed, especially on difficult assignments and possible solutions. -Support construction administration including field surveys, review of contractor submittals, review, and resolution of change orders, and witnessing tests of fire protection systems, under the direction of a licensed professional engineer. -Assist in commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems. -Analyze and interpret fire protection and life safety data to support successful solutions. -Apply knowledge of fire protection code and standards in broad areas of assignments. -Prepare project documents to track successful implementation from start to finish. -Perform field surveys and document fire protection systems and building life safety features. -Troubleshoot problems in implementation as they arise, offer solutions based on knowledge of fire protection and safety systems. -Design fire protection and life safety systems. -Attend coordination and design meetings, as needed. -Receive general instruction on key objectives for execution. -Interact and communicate with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others from project start to completion. -Develop a working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline -Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision. -Attend and participate in project meetings, as needed. -Perform fire protection design calculations including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand. -Prepare life safety plans and code compliance narratives related to local, state and federal codes and standards.

What You Bring

-Frequent and prolonged use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. -Revit or AutoCAD experience preferred. -Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred. -Highly level of motivation and a problem-solving attitude. -Occasional reaching outward or above shoulder. -Occasional pushing or pulling up to 40 pounds. -Occasional lifting or carrying up to 40 pounds. -Zero to five (0-5) years of work experience in the field of fire protection engineering. -Work is completed using fire protection engineering techniques and principles and is reviewed by more senior staff. -Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and external partners. -Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). -Effective verbal and written communication skills. -Strong work ethic and commitment to quality. -Bachelor's or master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering, a related engineering discipline with fire protection engineering experience, or a fire protection related field (such as fire science, fire administration or fire protection engineering technology). -Data analysis and interpretation skills. -Strong sense of urgency in responding to constituents. -Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
