The Assistant Construction Manager – Infrastructure (Utility Scale Solar & Storage) will support the Construction Manager with all phases of construction project(s). The Assistant Construction Manager will assist with day to day inspections and verifications of civil, mechanical, and electrical tasks completed by the EPC contractor. This individual is highly analytical and detail-oriented, keeping budget and cost awareness in mind at all construction phases.

  • Oversee EPC Contractor’s QA/QC process of Posts, Racking system/Trackers, Modules, Harness system, Inverters, AC/DC wiring systems, Substation, Fencing, etc.
  • Inspections: Works alongside Construction Manager to review and coordinate any corrections with design team.
  • Reporting (Construction): Drafts meeting minutes for weekly OACs and distributes to all relevant parties. Presents on specific tasks that the Assistant CM is managing.
  • Safety: Assists with the implementation of the company safety procedures and protocols onsite. Performs one safety walk per week, and ensures that any safety breaches are resolved within 24-hours
  • Enforces site specific quality requirements and trade specifications.
  • Document Organization (External): Initiates set-up, uploads, file sharing and maintain project and/or management files according to established criteria. Prior to sharing of any documents, files are to be organized and compiled appropriately for Construction Manager review and approval.
  • Perform daily inspections and log any issues against quality checklist.
  • Subcontractor Vetting/Contract Negotiation: Assesses the competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status of vendors prior to selection for CM review. Assists in negotiating and drafting contract terms and scope with subcontractors and vendors. Demonstrates success in selecting optimal vendors. Secures all contract requirements which may include a Certificate of Insurance, a fully executed Subcontract, a Schedule of Values, Submittals, Permits, and a Safety Program
  • Document Organization (Internal): Manages document control to maintain updated set of Construction Documents onsite, which includes indexing of bulletin issuance plans and posting of RFIs.
  • Construction Oversight: Collaborates with project staff to create a strategic action plan and cost estimates of materials, time, labor, and other resources required to complete the project. Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies. Assists in tracking punch list items and collecting closeout documents.
  • Collaborate with EPC Contractors in addressing and mitigating any quality related deficiencies.
  • Schedule Oversight: Assists the team in development and refinement of the Project Schedule and 3-week look ahead. Assists the Construction Manager in developing and tracking a procurement schedule/log that aligns with the project milestones
  • RFIs & Submittals: Establishes and maintains a working relationship with the design team to assist in obtaining timely responses to time sensitive RFIs and/or submittals. Assists with the distribution and implementation of RFIs and Bulletins to various subcontracting trades/ foremen in the field. Reviews all submittals and RFIs in detail for project conformance and assists with package approvals.
  • Construction Program/Job Site Setup: Supports Construction Manager in implementation of Construction Program/Logistic Plan, including quality control procedures, safety and security practices, field office location, laydown yard, temporary utilities, final utility POCs, staging areas, equipment, and manpower.
  • Oversee EPC Contractor’s Commissioning process and collaborate with the onsite Commissioning Consultant to minimize corrective work and associated delays.
  • Direction Setting: Works with team to translate strategies into team goals and objectives
  • Manage the punchlist and inspection process for efficient project closeout.
  • Internal Relations: Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with team and company personnel.
  • Collaborate with other onsite inspectors for consolidation of information to a central collection point.
  • Correspondence: Writes simple correspondence and/or reports. Effectively presents information to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

  • Project Experience: Has moderate experience in a support role with a real estate developer and/ general contractor, including reading and understanding construction-related documents, risk-awareness
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Reading & Comprehension: Reads, analyzes, and interprets complex documents. Demonstrates ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Has knowledge of general construction project management principles and practices.
  • Expertise: Demonstrates advanced understanding of various construction management processes, construction oriented, is willing to learn, detail-oriented, and computer savvy.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Bluebeam and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Demonstrates understanding of building codes and regulations related to construction projects and real estate development.
  • Strategic: Prioritizes key questions, problems and assumptions needed for decision-making. Recognizes key cause and effect factors. Draws conclusions that will prevent problems in the future
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Length of Experience: 3 years' experience in building or construction related field
  • Technical Acumen: Able to work with and understand mechanical tools (i.e torque wrench settings, etc.). Understanding of utility scale solar construction practices (racking systems, inverters, substations, gen-tie, electrical design concepts, etc.).Able to electronically record QA/QC issues on mobile device such as IPAD. Able to follow specifications, drawings and apply inspection work while adhering to site specific safety requirements.
  • Project Management: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Works to optimize team effectiveness and helps coordinate the project team. Assists with determining team members current workload, individual strengths/weaknesses for accurate task assignment.
  • Experience in QA/QC of utility scale solar EPC
  • Demonstrates proficiency in Primavera P6, MS Project, or equivalent project management software
  • Teamwork: Works well within development team, other CIM departments, and with 3rd parties
  • External Relations: Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a variety of audiences including builders, contractors, and development executives.
  • Degree: High School diploma, GED, or equivalent credential required. A College Degree in a related field may be considered towards relevant experience.
