  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Oversees execution of client presentations, engineering reviews, financial analysis, and contract administration for the design/planning of utility systems.
  • Reviews technical reports and presentations summarizing results of analysis before providing final version to clients.
  • Ensures utility industry software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod is utilized accurately to ensure client deliverables are met.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to less experienced staff.
  • Reviews technical and business-related risk assessments that evaluate impacts associated with rules implemented by regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for effective communication with other disciplines.
  • Support business lines as required by clients.
  • Leads a team of engineers to independently execute transmission system planning studies.
  • Oversees evaluations by ensuring NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, policies and procedures; production costing; risk assessment techniques; TPL compliance; generator interconnection are applied.
  • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates—report project performance.
  • Reviews and approves data analysis and interpretation of engineering, financial, and economic conditions and results, and subsequent business implications to client projects.
  • Reviews financial analysis completed by consultants and analysts using a variety of computer-based software.
  • Oversees the evaluation process for selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
  • Ensures the analysis of life-cycle costs is completed accurately by reviewing the technical assumptions regarding capital costs, operation and maintenance costs, performance estimates, and economic assumptions and forecasts conducted by consultants and analysts.
  • Leads the execution of a broad range of studies and other consulting services such as transmission planning and operational studies consisting of power flow, transient stability, transfer capability, short-circuit, voltage analysis, harmonics analysis, electromagnetic, reliability, and economic dispatch associated with congestion management scenarios.

  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to focus on the big picture to effectively and efficiently provide services that meet client needs, while also having the ability to identify and analyze details that are critical to project outcomes.
  • Prior experience associated with electric utility operations, planning, or consulting.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program or related degree and 7 years of experience within related industry, specifically with several years of experience within power delivery planning.
  • Extensive experience electric transmission systems and transmission systems planning processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of NERC and FERC standards
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines and to be effective in on-site work environments.
  • Extensive knowledge in standard engineering, construction, and operation techniques, principles, and procedures associated with power transmission facilities.
  • Ability to independently solve difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Ability to independently execute various transmission system planning studies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PPT).
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to provide independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques for electric transmission system planning procedures and criteria.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, including identification of critical path items to ensure deliverable deadlines are met.
  • Willingness to learn new service offerings as client needs and the market requires changes to the service offerings provided by our group
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred
  • Proven ability to lead, educate, and train a team of engineers and analysts in regard to transmission planning studies.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Master's degree in engineering or business and 6 years of experience or PhD in Engineering or Business and 5 years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge of numerous power regions of the country and independent system operators such as: PJM, MISO, NEISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, ERCOT, NYISO
  • Extensive experience with power system planning and operations; transient stability, short circuit, and voltage analysis; NERC, FERC, and regional requirements, policies and procedures; production costing; risk assessment techniques; TPL compliance; generator interconnection; and harmonics analysis.
  • Strong computer skills using industry software such as PSS/E, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, SKM, ETAP, and Promod.
