The Role

Overview

Patrol highways, aid motorists & maintain fleet vehicles for Virginia DOT safety service.

Tasks

-Detecting incidents and disruptions in traffic. -Conduct tire change and balances, brake pads and caliper, oil changes, basic electrical wiring troubleshooting and diagnosis, changing windshield wipers. -Establishing temporary traffic control for emergency responders and providing scene assistance. -Diagnose, repair and preventatively maintenance fleet vehicles. -Employees must also participate in monthly MVR monitoring program and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment. -Scheduling advance maintenance and shuttle to and from shops coordinating the work. -Support reversible roadway and high-occupancy vehicle gate and tunnel operations to ensure safe and incident-free lane change functions. ERO ONLY. -Clearing obstructions and debris from the roadway.

What You Bring

-Possess a valid Driver's License and a clean driving record in the last 3 years, including no suspension of license or single violation that the department of motor vehicle treats as worth 6 demerits. -Prior Safety Service Patrol Operator experience. -A positive customer service attitude - both to co-workers (internal customers) and external customers. -Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC). -Ability to perform hand gripping/squeezing for hand tools and equipment (levers, jack handles, air compressor, jumper cables etc.). -Working knowledge of basic automotive repair. -Ability to climb stairs. -Five (5) years of driving experience. -Ability to perform fine motor skills. -Be a minimum of 18 years of age. -Knowledge/experience of incident management techniques. -To ensure safety, Safety Service Patrol operators are provided with special highly visible, reflective uniforms and drive specially marked vehicles. -Ability to lift a 40-pound tool bag. -Basic competency in using computers such as laptops, smart pads. -Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads. -Ability to occasionally work at heights less than 4ft. -Ability to drive, using an AECOM provided vehicle, patrolling and monitoring a segment of interstate roadway in an assigned region. -Ability to perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, and/or crouching and occasionally work with arms above shoulder level. -Ability to lift up to 85 pounds. -Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the program’s mandatory random drug screening process. -Possess or be able and willing to obtain CPR certifications. -Radio and telecommunications experience. -Ability to descend/ascend vehicle steps. -Ability to pull/drag a force gauge to produce 160 ft./lbs of force with a contact point of 36 inches off the ground. -High School Diploma and Completion of formal training program or 6 months related experience
