The Role

Overview

Part-time on-call archaeology fieldwork & lab support for cultural resource projects.

Tasks

-Conducting cultural resource surveys and archaeological monitoring and excavations. -Consulting with a supervisor about unusual problems. -Processing artifacts (washing, labeling, and cataloging). -Using a digital camera to photo-document artifacts, features, and sites and keeping an accurate photo log. -Working collaboratively with guidance on how to complete work activities that are unfamiliar. -Using digital devices to record field data.

What You Bring

-Knowledge and understanding of equipment and technology used to collect and record archaeological data, including GPS applications and Microsoft applications. -Some experience with conducting laboratory analysis of both prehistoric and historic material. -Documenting archaeological and historical resources; must be able to take accurate field notes and complete forms. -Valid Driver's License with a good driving record as travel will be required for this role. -General familiarity with cultural resource management protocols and processes, including compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act and National Environmental Policy Act. -Excellent work ethic and team-player attitude. -Completion of an archaeological field school is high desired. -Previous technician experience in Arizona and New Mexico is highly desired. -Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with other project staff. -High School graduate + 2 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in archaeological fieldwork. -Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required. -3+ years of experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring. -Bachelor's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field. -Knowledge of field survey and excavation techniques, ability to process (wash, catalog, and label) recovered archaeological artifacts, properly fill out field and laboratory forms. -Strong attention to detail, with proven ability to follow specific instructions.
