Summer field internship managing natural resources and land in SE Alaska.

Tasks
-Assess forest road conditions -Submit a resume and most recent transcript (unofficial) with online application. Including a cover letter and list of references is optional but strongly recommended. -Help coordinate and plan activities for Hoonah’s Traditional Food Fair in September -Work on sub-projects within regional community forest partnerships. -Provide recommendations to supervisors for improving processes specific to land management, both short & long-term. -Assess fish passages and survey salmon habitats -Collaborate with natural resource management professionals in SE Alaska. -Perform stream restoration projects -Be prepared to provide a sample of a class lab project, research, or report -Research potential habitat restoration project expansion. -Post-management research plot data collection -Perform forest management tasks. -Occasionally travel may be necessary by small plane, boat, or off-road vehicle to remote work sites under supervision of qualified staff.

What You Bring
-Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move 25-50 pounds regularly. -Ability to travel, as needed -Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently -Ability to meet deadlines -Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. -Must be currently enrolled in post-secondary school/program or a recent graduate (1-2 years) -Strong written and verbal communication skills -Comfortable with small boat operation -You must successfully complete a background check prior to onboarding at Sealaska. -Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment -Outdoor Survival Skills -Ability to adapt to schedule and environment changes -Must be a Sealaska shareholder, descendant of a shareholder, or spouse of a shareholder -Legally authorized to work in the United States -First Aid & CPR -At least a 2.5 GPA -Must be able to hike long distances through difficult terrain -Pre-commercial thinning planning and layout -You may be asked to provide proof of your status as a Sealaska shareholder, shareholder descendant, or shareholder spouse. -Valid Driver’s License -Intern must provide copy of a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance for use of company car. -Major/minor in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Science, or related field or have relevant experience -Strong critical thinking and research skills -Must be 18 years old at time of hire
