The Role

Lead highway design teams for complex projects, handling design, coordination, and delivery.

Tasks

-Supervise, mentor, and evaluate mid-level and junior staff, -Prepare and implement quality management plans, -Lead quality control reviews, comment resolution meetings, and verify corrections are completed, -Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies. -Manage scope, schedule and budget for the roadway design team, -Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required. -Oversee/create surface models utilizing OpenRoads Designer, InRoads, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center and/or other similar design software, -Provide oversight and direction to the design team, -Develop project communications and attend technical meetings, provide coordination to resolve design issues, -Lead project and department level meetings, -Lead a team of experienced staff, promote staff development through training, mentoring, and career planning, -Oversee/create preliminary design concepts and alternatives for highways and civil features to support cost estimating, -Lead interdisciplinary design coordination to ensure that project elements are compatible, -Interface with project stakeholders as needed. -Execute final design of project elements such as roadway geometrics, roadway design plans, signing and marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, wall plan and profile sheets, Design Exceptions, Design Deviations, and final Released for Construction (RFC) plans

What You Bring

-Expert level knowledge of AASHTO, Roadside Design Guide -Regular, reliable attendance -Experience developing construction plans for transportation projects -Expert level knowledge of AASHTO, A Policy on Geometric Design of Highways and Streets -Experience leading and mentoring junior staff -Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field -Expert level knowledge of USDOT/FHWA, MUTCD for Streets and Highways -Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment -Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing -15-20 years of total experience required years of civil / highway design experience -Registered as a Professional Engineer -Experience leading design teams -Work productively and meet deadlines timely -Working knowledge of Autodesk and/or Bentley CAD platforms preferred -Experience with design-build/alternative delivery
