Tasks

Job Summary: The Estimator will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for commercial, residential, municipal and highway construction underground utility projects and services to aid management in bidding on or determining price of service, take-offs, evaluate vendor quotes, change orders, and contract updates. -Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates. -Coordinate with Project Coordinators, Project Managers, and Superintendents throughout the project life cycle. -Solicit quotations from material vendors and subcontractors. -Work closely with Engineers, Architects, Owners, Contractors and Subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. -Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals through project life cycle. -Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops. -Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. -Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work. -Calculate labor, equipment and materials costs required for detailed cost estimate. -Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors. -Attend pre-bid meetings and project meetings as required. -Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. -Familiarity with geotechnical investigations and reports. -Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Engineering or equivalent. -Basic heavy equipment knowledge (what equipment can be used for completing projects). -Experience in HCSS-Heavy Bid, AG-tek, preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel spreadsheet development. -Minimum 5 years of experience in civil construction and underground utility (water, sewer, storm) estimating. -Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills with a winning attitude -Ability to multi-task and manage estimates for more than one project at any given time.
