Overview

Manage ecological risks on construction sites and ensure biodiversity compliance.

Tasks

-Consult with local planning authorities, local Biodiversity officers, National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), and Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). -Daily record keeping, signing off construction documents and production of reports (as required) for auditing purposes. -Advise on protecting valued biodiversity features on construction sites. -Review relevant documents, including AA/NIS, EcIA, CEMP and species and habitat management plans. -Provide practical, site-specific, and proportionate assistance on how their clients can achieve compliance with environmental legislation. -Provision of an ecological watching brief during, for example, vegetation clearance or building renovation or demolition, habitat translocation work, habitat creation, habitat enhancement, and habitat management work; and

What You Bring

-Excellent communication skills, including face-to-face discussion with clients and their contractors as well as verbal and written communication. -Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or the Association of Environmental Clerks of Work (AEnvCoW), or the ability to attain membership within three months of appointment -An awareness and understanding of Irish and EU environmental protection and wildlife legislation and planning guidelines. -Full driving licence and willingness to travel to sites. -Knowledge of construction management, civil engineering and project management. -Training with and Chartered Environmentalist. -A third-level qualification in environmental science, zoology, ecology, or a similar discipline. -A minimum of 3 years of work experience on a broad range of ecological projects, ideally involving the delivery of practical conservation advice or management. -Excellent IT skills -Proven experience as an ECoW or in a similar field-based ecological role.
