Overview

General labor in industrial settings: material handling, site cleanup, and equipment operation.

Tasks

-Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks. -Ensure that proper safety and incident reporting procedures are followed. Bring problems to the attention of the Foreman or Safety personnel. -Assist in patching asphalt with hot and cold mix. Excavate and fills trenches and ditches. -Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, using mowers and hand and power trimmers, and clear debris from grounds. -Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water, using commercial cleaning equipment. -Load and unload trucks and haul and hoist materials. -Gather and empty trash. -Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems. -Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor. -Monitor building security and safety by performing such tasks as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure that hazards are not created. -Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures. -Shovel bituminous concrete (asphalt) or other material into construction area. -Maintain a clean job site: pick up all tools and equipment and secure job site each day in order to eliminate potential hazards. -Adjust and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.

-Some knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in an industrial setting. -Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency. -Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely. -Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions. -See the "Know Your Rights" poster available in English and Spanish. -Some knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions. -Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. -Ability to communicate orally and in writing. -Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
