The Role

Overview

Entry-level lab technician preparing samples and conducting chemical analyses on a 3rd shift.

Tasks

-Cooperate and coordinate both orally and in writing -Works under close supervision using routine and standard methods -Metals preparation and analysis -Pushing and Pulling: Pushing and pulling up to 200 pounds when moving sample carts and gas tanks -Responsible for performing job functions in compliance with EHS and QA standards -Recording and reporting data and any unusual test occurrences to the supervisor -Low Resolution preparation and analysis -High Resolution preparation and analysis -Calculating data -Follow and learn appropriate protocols in one or more of the following disciplines: -Responsible for general housekeeping in his/her work area -Preparation of samples using standard techniques -Performs routine lab tasks that provide experience and familiarization with methods, practices, and programs. These include: -Performing chemical analysis using standard techniques -Performing routine instrument maintenance -Hand Use: Handling samples, operating instruments, data entry -Washes glassware

What You Bring

-Strong Mathematics background -Lifting and Carrying: Lifting up to 50 pounds and carrying up to 30 pounds when moving samples and disposing of waste -Basic mathematical skills -Aliquots and weighs samples -Speaking: Conversational speaking ability. -Experience: Laboratory experience helpful Previous production-oriented work helpful (awareness and ability to meet deadlines) -Body Positions: Approximately 60% of time standing when analyzing samples, 10% walking when moving about laboratory, and 30% sitting when working at computer, doing paper work, or analyzing samples. These percentages vary significantly Page 4- Analyst I depending upon duties being performed. Must be able to sit, stand, or stoop for long periods of time. -Body Movements: Stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching when getting samples and performing analyses -Good communication skills -Must have a valid US drivers license without recent incident. -Hearing: Conversational hearing ability -Work independently -Analytical and/or General Science  Scientific methods and method compliance -Quick learner -Problem solving skills -Knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures -Vision: Performing analyses, viewing computer screen, doing paperwork -Education: High school Chemistry coursework a must, basic laboratory experience -Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry -Radio Chemistry -Ability to muti-task -Smelling: For unusual odors, leakage, contamination -Good organizational skills -Final candidates must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen -Work independently following written or verbal instructions -Knowledge of laboratory procedures -Use calculator/mathematical formulas and concepts -Complete work within time and quality constraints -General knowledge of chemistry and/or general science -Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship -Ability to become trained and competent on complex instrumentation including but not limited to gas chromatography, gas chromatography/mass spectrometry, atomic absorption, ICP, and instrument specific data systems. -Professional working proficiency in English is a requirement, including the ability to read, write and speak in English.
