The Role

Overview

Operate and maintain chilled water, AHUs, and cooling equipment at a plant.

Tasks

-Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards -Perform plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices -Become Subject Matter Expert or system representative on assigned systems -Frequently sit, stand, or walk, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally crawl -Assist other team members and work with all departments to support the operation in achieving its goals -Investigate plant issues, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans -Perform all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries -Conduct routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; provide feedback to management and other employees -Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice -Maintain accuracy of shift operating logs in Plantlog, records, timesheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to plant operations -Conduct Contractor / Visitor Safety Orientations in accordance with Company Policy -Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary -Talk or hear; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and constantly reach with hands and arms -Communicate with other company personnel on site and at other locations. Represent the company in dealing with the customer, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel under the direction of Management -Perform mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks under direction of Management or Lead O&M Technician -Occasionally push or pull objects 70 pounds in weight -Frequently lift objects of up to 50 pounds in weight and carry objects of up to 35 pounds in weight -Perform and maintain housekeeping standards and duties -Active participant of the site safety team/committee -Facilitate pre-job briefs with staff/contractors to ensure worker safety and DTE policies and procedures are followed -Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained, observed by the Lead O&M Technician, or supervised by Management -Troubleshooting, testing, repairing, diagnosing, replacing of parts, components, and refrigerant leaks on equipment cooling units is required -Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures

What You Bring

-Knowledge of chemistry and Chiller plant chemical applications. Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plants -Knowledge of and experience in the following: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical test equipment -Knowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and chemistry -Willingness to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respond to off-hour call-ins when contacted -Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings -Possess a valid state driver’s license and have a good driving record -Possess experience removing, adding, trimming, reclaiming of refrigerants from refrigeration equipment -Four (4) years of power plant experience in operations and maintenance -Experience using Maximo and Leido’s HIM controls -Universal Refrigerant License is required -Vision requirements for this position include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus -Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications -Knowledge of and experience in Standard Operating Procedures, Pre-Job Briefs, Job Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments and LOTO -Work from or on ladders, lifts, and heights of greater than 20 feet -Knowledge of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment, including motors, pumps, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems and associated maintenance functions -Knowledge of chiller plant safety, policies, and procedures, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment -Ability to read and write effectively in English and to do basic mathematics -Four (4) years’ experience in the operation and maintenance of Centrifugal Chillers, Water Treatment, Cooling Towers, Air Houses and Gas fired equipment -Ability to complete site specific written qualification program -High school diploma or equivalent
