Tasks

The purpose of this position is to supervise the safe and efficient movement of trains and other on-track equipment over the designated portions of the railroad. Train Dispatcher -Comply with and ensure staff compliance with all safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required. -Comply with all related safety rules and procedures and report all hazards as required. -Attend and participate in all assigned training, especially those pertaining to safety and security. -Duties include overseeing engine crews, flagmen, track an C&S departmental personnel working within railroad boundaries assigned to specified territories. -Assist local fire and police departments in emergency situations within governed railway boundaries. -Must coordinate and prioritize maintenance of track and signal work, together with the efficient movement of scheduled trains. -Directly responsible for all rail movement within an assigned territory

What You Bring

Drug and alcohol screening: Employment contingent upon passing pre-employment drug and alcohol screen. Also, contingent upon receiving a favorable background check. Must pass a physical examination. -Prefer work experience interpreting safety rules. -Must have good working knowledge of MS Office package. -Sedentary office workThe mental stress of being responsible for the safety of several trains and their passengers can be exhausting for some individuals.Must be able to cope with unforeseen events and at times work under stressful conditions. -Demonstrated ability to direct employees, engaged in the movement of trains and other on-track equipment, in accordance with the operating rules and procedures. -Requires a minimum of 1-3 years’ of dispatching or emergency response experience. -Must be able to cope with unforeseen events and at times work under stressful conditions. -Must be able to communicate successfully with a variety of disciplines and levels, both internal and external staff. -Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent credential. -Must be qualified on the NORAC operating rules. -Prefer a college degree or relevant post-secondary education and training. -Must successfully complete a Train Dispatcher’s training program which includes examinations on the operating rules, instructions governing operation of signals and interlocking, employee timetables and physical characteristics. -Demonstrated effectiveness in delivering strong leadership and organizational skills. -Teamwork. Work as part of the transportation team. Must remain in department for one year before eligible to apply for other jobs within the company. -Must be conversant about Keolis Commuter Services’ obligations to the MBTA contract and other railroads. -Prefer previous experience as a Train Dispatcher or Block Operator. -Successful history of matching strong interpersonal skills to business needs.
