The Role

Lead survey crew for construction staking, manage field operations and staff.

Tasks

-Plans daily activities considering possible multiple project schedules to ensure efficient completion of the work -Discusses job assignments with clients, contractors, and other external sources -Performs trigonometry, geometry, algebra, coordinate geometry and various surveying computations -Adheres to established company policies, follows all survey service group procedures, and assures the crew follows standard procedures -Communicates with the entire crew and office staff about all aspects of the project and progress -Performs field survey activities in accordance with standards set by the company, state statutes, and the surveying industry best practices -Maintains assigned vehicle and survey equipment to ensure everything is kept neat, clean and in top working condition -Provides technical support working independently but under limited direction of Staff Surveyors, Project Surveyors or the Regional Survey Manager -Provides direction and guidance to technicians, and directs the field survey activities for small and large projects under minimal supervision of a senior staff member -Works without direct day-to-day supervision and makes technical and supervisory decisions for projects assigned within specified limits of authority -Provides input to Supervisor and Regional Manager for the formal performance evaluation of crew members under responsible charge -Assures crew adheres to procedures in the safety manual and uses all personal safety equipment provided -Responsible for the organization of job files for data storage, field notes, reports, and drawings -Prepares daily time sheets, data logs, topographic and staking reports, and manages field change orders -Participates in Survey Department and/or crew training

What You Bring

-Able to perform physically demanding work in all types of weather -Associates degree or Engineering/Surveying related college courses a plus -Able to work independently, when appropriate using robotic instruments and GNSS -Works well with others, communicates well with staff and clients -Operates and has knowledge of GNSS and robotic total station functions and capabilities -Good understanding of leveling practices, allowable closures, loop constraints, balancing and best industry practices -Certified Survey Technician Level II or III a plus -Personable and easy to talk to -Minimum 5+ years experience working as a crew chief/party chief -Remains calm under pressure -High school diploma or equivalent education
