HDD Operator/Locator

Overview

Operate horizontal directional drill, locate utilities, and manage fiber optic conduit installation.

Tasks

-Oversee laborers and/or crew members work and monitor time usage. -Set equipment up including the drill, water tanks and grounding the machine. -Assist with setting hand holes and completing tie-ins. -Operate Horizontal Directional Drill -Assist in potholing and remediation. -Locate for Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable. -Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities. -Communicates with Supervisor daily to turn in required reports (i.e. Bore log, vehicle maintenance reports, crew time logs etc.) -Complies with safety procedures on and off the project site. -Follows specifications for the job and company policies.

What You Bring

-Previous construction experience, preferably in the telecommunication industry. -Ability to perform proper reaming and pull back methods for existing conditions. -Ability to Read and Comprehend utility locates. -Possess a valid driver’s license or be eligible and willing to obtain the required license for the position. -Ability to travel. -Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check. -Class A Commercial Driver’s License is a plus (Higher wage scales apply to CDL holders). -Knowledge of established Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and techniques -Ability to perform Horizontal/Directional Drill Locator/ Operator procedures and duties. -Ability to properly clean and maintain the equipment, check fluid levels, and conduct a visual inspection of vehicle/equipment to assure your vehicle/equipment is performing at optimum safety, perform the required pre-trip, post trip inspections and the required reports, perform needed maintenance including winterizing equipment. -Able to lift/carry 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed with or without assistance -Basic knowledge of and ability to hand tools and equipment in a safe manner. -Willing and able to work in all weather conditions. -A good driving record is required. -Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees, etc. -Ability to properly formulate and mix drilling mud for the site conditions. -Basic knowledge of and ability to operate various types of utility trucks and equipment in a safe manner.
