The Role
Overview
Inspect and review building construction projects to ensure code and safety compliance

Tasks
-Reviews plans and specifications for compliance with agency and industry requirements; -Stay connected! Log in daily to your JobAps Personal Status Board to track your status and check email (including spam/junk folders) for updates and tasks. -Conducts field visits of proposed projects with applicants; -Evaluates site conditions for construction safety including observation of soil, rock, ledge, water and other local conditions; -Reviews bids and quotes; -Prepares technical reports of field conditions; -Assists in preparation of proposals for professional services; -read and interpret building plans and specifications; -Evaluates field work for adherence to contract documents and/or codes and national standards; -Assists and coordinates with receipt of state permits and certifications related to construction projects; -May assist in preparation and presentation of education programs mandated by statute to local code enforcement officials, state agencies and professional organizations; -Inspects all phases of construction and building rehabilitation or improvements for compliance with building codes, departmental regulations and/or statutory requirements; -Provides technical advice to in-house staff and public or private organizations regarding building projects as required; -Assists with technical feasibility determination; -May perform limited code compliance plan review; -Assists in consultant and construction management duties for agency; -Consults with in-house staff, other agencies, architects, engineers, construction personnel and local building code enforcement officials on problems encountered; -Reviews shop drawings and proposed changes to approved building plans; -Reviews payment applications for consistency with project budget and project progress; -Reviews and evaluates schedules of values and payments to contractors; -Serves as liaison with state and local housing officials; -Prepares specifications and construction costs; -Inspects methods and quality of workmanship including performance and observation of testing of construction materials; -May testify at administrative hearings or in state and federal courts of law; -Determines necessity for specification and design changes and makes recommendations;

If requested, RQs can be accessed via an email sent to you after the job close date or by visiting your JobAps Personal Status Board (Certification Questionnaires section). -Knowledge of -Considerable knowledge of principles, methods, materials and equipment used in building design and construction; -Experience with the State Building and Fire Safety Codes and industry standards, including plan review, plumbing and inspection of buildings -oral and written communication skills; -utilize computer software. -and ability to interpret contracting, zoning and building codes and related regulations; -Incumbents in this class will be required to travel. -Possession of any trade license, construction inspector, or any other inspector’s license -Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess or obtain a license as a Construction Inspector or a higher license category within six (6) months of appointment. -Preferred candidates will be able to conduct field inspections of building construction and renovations -interpersonal skills; -Ability to -Experience in reading, understanding, interpreting, and applying municipal/state codes, rules, and regulations in conjunction with report writing -Considerable amount of travel within the state -Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license. -Considerable ability to inspect and supervise construction work for compliance with plans and specifications; -Experience in documenting all efforts taken to ensure compliance with laws, codes, regulations, ordinances, and ADA standards -Possession of a Building Official Certification, or Assistant Building Official or Plan Review Licensure -Experience managing multiple diverse projects of varying scale
