Tasks

From day one, you will contribute to solving real-world engineering problems for our clients and will rapidly gain experience in a broad range of additive and related disciplines by joining a growing team with over 85 years of combined experience in coating and additive builds. Some of our key facilities include coupon and metre-scale EHLA (up to 11kW) and DED (up to 3kW) machines, hot-wire laser system, use of Siemens NX, a range of beam and powder quality assurance tools and support laboratory facilities. -To develop project management excellence within the team from proposal creation and cost estimation through to experimental programme delivery, change control and reporting. -To develop and grow a motivated team with world-class technical skills and an entrepreneurial approach to business development. -To advise on and recommend appropriate project, equipment and other investments. -To develop plans for continuous improvement of the services offered by LAM, in agreement with the Group Manager and your peers. -To manage workflow efficiently in the team. -To meet the Section’s planned targets for order generation (a balance of predominantly single client and joint industry projects with some government part-funded collaboratives). -To advise the Group Manager on financial, operational and policy matters. -To actively promote collaboration with other Sections and functions. -To contribute towards development of the LAM technology strategy in alignment with, and to help inform, the TWI technology roadmap. -To implement and promote systems to ensure compliance with corporate policy and best practice, in particular in the areas of quality assurance and health, safety and the environment. -Delivery to time, quality and budget of those projects.

What You Bring

You will have a degree or PhD in engineering or physical sciences, or a related discipline. You will hold or be working towards membership of a relevant professional institute and Chartered Engineer/Manager status. Experience of project management, technology delivery and business development, together with an aptitude for people management and leadership are essential, as are effective communication skills. This position may require regular travel both in the UK and abroad. Security requirements: Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) is required as a basic requirement. UK security clearance is highly desirable for this role to ensure involvement in all aspects of our work.
