Provide traffic safety studies and engineering support for VDOT Salem District projects.

Tasks

-Participate in road safety assessments -Draft safety studies to reduce crashes at identified locations, including crash analysis, field visit and develop countermeasures -Support engineering safety study program for VDOT Salem District in Salem, VA -Perform safety reviews at requested locations -Provide traffic engineering reviews for transportation projects in support of other Divisions -Draft speed studies based on work order requests from Residency or District staff

What You Bring

-Knowledge of MUTCD and VA Supplement to MUTCD and functional knowledge of Virginia Work Area Protection Manual -Ability to work in client facility and act with the highest degree of professionalism representing the firm and client needs -Experience performing safety studies -Over five (5) years of experience in Traffic Engineering, Highway Safety, or Roadway Design role -Ability to perform work safely and follow VDOT safety rules -Knowledge of Highway Safety Manual -Bachelor’s degree in engineering required in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Systems, Highway Safety or related field -PE strongly preferred -Experience performing traffic engineering studies -Ability to use ArcGIS, Microsoft Publisher, Microstation or similar software for crash diagrams and designing countermeasures
