Tasks

-Regularly review all Human Resource documentation in a timely manner. -Participate in regular skills training and professional development including attendance at seminars and courses. -Lead the members of a Design Team to successfully complete assigned or implied tasks. -Regularly review all material and building codes and standards (including all updates) to ensure accuracy of structural designs and analysis techniques and requirements. -Make responsible decisions on all matters assigned except those involving large sums of money or long-range objectives. -Assist the Managing Director in the evaluation, selection, and training of staff. -Follow departmental processes on all engagements to successfully deliver to the client and achieve targeted project profitability. -Ensuring Corporate and Team objectives are in alignment. -Make independent decisions on project work methods and procedures. -Serve as a member of the Structural Technical and Standardization Committee responsible for the development of the National Structural Engineering practices and methodologies. -Devise practical and economical solutions to project problems. -Take courses of action necessary to expedite the successful completion of assigned projects. -Perform the structural analysis and design of building members in accordance with the applicable Building Codes and Standards. -Develop and maintain client relationships, identify new business opportunities. -Oversee the preparation of accurate structural drawings and sketches utilizing hand drafting techniques, and/or, CAD drafting software (AutoCAD, REVIT Structures). -Scheduling of team tasks, goal setting, and overall project implementation strategies. -Project Director and Lead Engineer selecting and managing project Engineering and technical staff to successfully complete assigned projects. Including: -Work in cooperation with CAD Operators, utilizing drafting software, to develop accurate project structural drawings and sketches. -Mentor and Train all Structural Engineering Staff. -Develop and implement departmental budgets. -Project Design Engineer working in cooperation with project selected Engineering and technical staff to successfully complete assigned projects. -Review and evaluate, in cooperation with the Managing Director and Vice President, new and emerging markets and methodologies. -Oversee Field Personnel performing on-site field reviews of construction/renovation/rehabilitation projects to assess constructed element conformance. Assist as required in the preparation of any associated field review reports, site instructions, change orders, progress draw approvals, and letters of certification. -Team billing and expenditure review. -Lead and manage the delivery of a portfolio of complex client engagements. -Serve as Senior Design Engineer and Project Manager across multiple projects. Work cooperatively with the Team staff to coordinate project delivery schedules, milestones, and staff workloads. Ensure delivery objectives are met. -Responsible for receiving and responding to requests for proposals with appropriate approvals from the Managing Director and Vice-President. -Maintain expected level of client service delivery quality on projects. -Manage customer expectations and ensure compliance with contractual obligations. -Assist the Managing Director with the evaluation of Departmental financial elements (budgets, expenditures). -Give technical guidance to Junior Engineers or technicians assigned to work on a common project. -Setting team and project expectations and communication protocols. -Participate in project & department specific short- and long-term planning. -Regularly review the Corporate Health and Safety Policy as well as all supplement policies. -Attendance at regular Departmental and Project Meetings with Senior Staff and Managers. -Develop and implement market specific methodologies and approaches for Structural Engineering services.

What You Bring

-Extensive project management & interpersonal skills and ability to deliver projects on time to the satisfaction of the customer. -Ideally a minimum of 4 years in a Leadership position. -Extensive people management skills and ability to train/develop/engage staff members of all technical backgrounds and experiences. -Exceptional customer-facing capabilities and relationship management skills. -Possesses an exceptional balance of technical and people skills. -Ability to deliver customer solutions (ability to critically assess customer situation and present solutions). -Exceptional organizational skills (e.g. can coordinate diverse set of resources for multiple clients). -Ideally a minimum of 8 years of experience in the design/engineering/construction of buildings utilizing the National and Provincial Building Codes in Canada. -Extensive knowledge of structural engineering processes and technical concepts including all applicable building codes and standards. -Working knowledge of the local client base, including architectural, contractor and various end users in various build types. A track record of leveraging relationships to drive project sales will be considered a highly valued asset -Exceptional verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to communicate technical subject matter in business terms. -Exceptional ability to read, interpret, and develop design drawings and sketches. -Ideally a minimum of 12 years of experience in the design/engineering/construction of full buildings and their components. Experience (and/or training) to include work in multistory construction and projects utilizing structural steel, cast-in-place concrete (flat slab & wall), and wood. -Completed undergraduate degree in Structural (Civil) Engineering or Applied Sciences. -Proficient in dealing with clients of varying backgrounds and experiences. -Licensed Engineer under the Terms and Conditions of Alberta and/or British Columbia Professional Engineers. A Struct.Eng. designation in BC will be considered as a highly valued asset. -Exceptional interpersonal skills including emotional intelligence, empathy, and conflict resolution skills. -Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities and personnel. -Proficient in conflict resolution, relationship building, and integrating of Company Strategic Goals with Team Strategic Goals. -Extensive construction project experience including the preparation of construction documents, tender processes, and field documentation. -Exceptional problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner. -State-of-the-art technologies (BIM) -Exceptional commitment to professional and customer service excellence.
