The Role

Overview

Design and manage building envelope projects, including analysis, retrofits, and client liaison.

Tasks

-Construction field review while projects are under construction -Development of drawings and specifications for rehabilitation and deep energy retrofit projects -Design and analysis to determine effective repair alternatives -Working independently or with a Project Engineer within the project team to take a project from the preliminary conceptual stage through the construction and project close-out stages -Building envelope detailing, and building envelope detail review of architectural drawings and specifications -Develop an understanding of the responsibilities and prevue of each respective design discipline and construction trade -Preparation of evaluation reports, studies, and project budgets -Liaising and coordinating directly with developer and architectural clients as building enclosure consultant for new and adaptive re-use building projects -Preliminary site investigations and detailed evaluations of existing buildings -Involvement in contract negotiations and dispute resolution -Review and analysis of bids submitted by contractors -Lead With Purpose - empower, develop and support others to reach their full potential -Over time, attain the strength and confidence to become a project lead – spearheading designs, chairing meetings, acting as client liaison, working with contractors to analyze solutions to unforeseen conditions during the construction phase -Supportive Teamwork - promote an inclusive and respectful work environment and culture -Conducting thermal and hygrothermal analysis of building enclosure materials, components and assemblies

What You Bring

-Prime consulting including coordination with other engineering and architectural disciplines -Creative Mindset - provide new and diverse ideas -Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with all stakeholders -Ability to conceptualize design with an understanding of constructability -Awareness of the designer’s influence on constructability and project costs -7 – 10 years' of building science experience -Able to interact professionally with all levels of business personnel and build strong working relationships -Degree in Civil Engineering – Preference may be given for those candidates with completed courses in Building Science. -Strong attention to detail and produce error free, high-quality work -Team player with ability to work independently with minimum direction -Exceptional organizational, time-management, and project management skills -Demonstrated effective communication skills -Proven leadership skills -Experience in a consulting firm environment considered an asset. -Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng). -Experience in the construction industry considered an asset.
