The Role

Overview

Oversee and inspect small-business concrete construction for MTA projects, providing mentorship.

Tasks

-Work proactively with contractors to minimize public disruptions, ensuring adherence to project phasing plans, maintenance, and protection of traffic (MPT) plans, and required permits. -Attend and participate in daily project meetings, including start-of-shift toolbox talks and end-of-shift reviews, to maintain effective communication and coordination, ensuring contractor field staff adhere to all health and safety standards. -Conduct comprehensive inspection services, emphasizing safety protocols and quality assurance, with a primary focus on concrete operations. -Independently oversee multiple construction sites to ensure all activities comply with contractual requirements. -Prepare detailed daily reports documenting work performed, project progress, and any issues encountered, and accurately enter data and reports into the web-based construction management software application. -Support project staff in performing field tests on construction materials and review submittals such as shop drawings and work plans for compliance. Schedule and facilitate special inspections as required by project specifications. -Address field concerns and resolve schedule impacts in collaboration with the General Superintendent and/or Project Manager; review contract documents in advance to anticipate, identify, and communicate potential project issues to the Project Manager and/or MTA management, and report all contract discrepancies and differing site conditions in a timely manner. -Verify and calculate quantity payment items to support contract payment processes. -Assist in preparation of 2-week look ahead schedules. -Coordinate with MTA personnel for site inspections, site access, safety requirements, protection measures, and overall project management. Assist in subcontractor coordination. -Mentor MTA Small Business Contractors to ensure their performance and submissions meet all project completion requirements. -Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding the use of company funds and resources, strictly adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.

What You Bring

-Work in diverse railroad construction environments and under various weather conditions, with flexibility for day, night, and weekend shifts as necessary. -Proficient in interpreting and understanding contract documents, including specifications, contract drawings, and shop drawings. -Previous experience in training, mentoring, or teaching in related subject areas.This position is subject to and contingent upon client approval of candidates put forth for consideration by WSP. -Formal training and practical experience in safety protocols and quality assurance processes. -Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license is preferred. -Minimum of nine (9) years of progressive, post-education professional experience in the relevant discipline, including substantial prior construction inspection experience with a proven record of overseeing and inspecting concrete work such as mixing, placement, and finishing. -Demonstrated experience with Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) projects, including completion of track safety training. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills. -Management platforms, with preference for experience in MTA’s Asite, MTA Project Management Information System (MTA PMIS/Unifier), and/or Procore. -Quality control experience in supervising concrete work, encompassing mixing, placement, and finishing processes. -Demonstrated experience in managing or monitoring at least two (2) construction projects, each with a minimum value of one (1) million dollars. -Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation. -Comprehensive experience working on infrastructure projects. -High School Diploma or equivalent educational credential. -Ability to accurately document and report project issues and performance using Electronic Project -Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies. -Certification at NICET Level I or equivalent qualification. -Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management
