The Role

Overview

Inspect and ensure quality of weldments per codes, standards, and specifications

Tasks

-Collaborate with production, engineering, and management to resolve welding or quality-related issues. -Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, production, and other employees. -Perform dimensional measurements and fit-up inspections for piping and components. -Assist with audits, continuous improvement initiatives, and other related duties as assigned. -Prepare detailed, accurate inspection reports and maintain organized documentation and filing systems. -Promote a culture of safety by understanding occupational hazards and adhering to safety precautions in a pipe fabrication environment. -Read and interpret job specifications, shop drawings, and fabrication plans to ensure proper layout, fit up, and weldment quality. -Conduct visual inspection of completed work and recommend repairs when necessary. -Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and welder qualification records, including bend testing. -Perform inspections to determine if weldments meet acceptance criteria per applicable codes, standards, or customer specifications (ASME, AWS, API, or project-specific requirements). -Provide guidance and mentorship to welding personnel and less-experienced inspectors.

What You Bring

-High school diploma or equivalent required. -Familiarity with ASME B31, ASME BPVC Section VIII, and Section IX is a plus (not required). -Comfortable working in varied environments, including elevated areas, confined spaces, and around active fabrication operations. -Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification preferred; active AWS CWI strongly preferred. -Additional formal training or certifications in welding, inspection, or quality systems is a plus. -Ultrasonic Testing (UT – Shear Wave preferred) -Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word, with general computer and email proficiency. -Previous supervisory or leadership experience in QC or welding inspection. -Hands-on welding experience and/or supervisory experience strongly preferred. -Ability to lift, bend, and perform inspections in a pipe fabrication environment. -Ability to work collaboratively, be proactive, and assist the Quality team when needed. -Experience with quality audits, process improvement, and continuous improvement initiatives. -Visual Testing (VT) -Knowledge of welding techniques for carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloys, including FCAW, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW. -Understanding of Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), filler metal selection, and welder qualification testing. -Effective verbal and written communication skills. -Strong attention to detail, ethical standards, and self-motivation. -Radiographic Testing (RT) -Experience with dimensional measurement for piping systems. -3–5+ years of experience as a CWI or equivalent experience in welding inspection, QC, or fabrication. -Penetrant Testing (PT)
