Participate in all engineering and development assurance activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable, and that meet programme requirements in a safe & environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.
Use risk ID and evaluation methods (e.g. HAZOP, QRA etc.), as suitable, to evaluate and compare options.
Act as or liaise with the appropriate project engineer so that method statements for site works and surveys are produced and approved to the required standards.
Assurance of Fire Systems (limited to system design and commissioning).
Liaison with route engineers (discipline).
Assurance of fire strategy and designs which are based on following prescriptive guidance and does not include any performance-based design or smoke control and excludes managed stations

Comprehensive understanding of codes and standards pertaining to the design of fire systems which shall include evidence of passing relevant courses such as LPC/ BAFE etc.
Assurance of all fire strategies /designs for managed stations or where some aspects of risk analysis or performance-based approach has been adopted
Degree in Fire Engineering or a similar discipline
Professional membership or accreditation via a relevant body such as CIBSE/ IET.
Substantial experience in the design and review of fire strategies and engineering solutions
Experience in the use and application of codes and standards such as BS 9992, BS 9999
Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE)
Substantial experience in the design, installation and commissioning of fire systems.
Chartered Fire Engineer registered with the Institution of Fire Engineers (CEng)
