The Role

Overview

Perform QA/QC inspections on civil construction sites to ensure compliance with specs.

Tasks

-Perform and document inspections of concrete placement, rebar installation, formwork system, earthworks, and other civil works per approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). -Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the QA/QC program. -Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to quality requirements. -Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to address quality concerns and resolve deficiencies in a timely and professional manner. -Support with the preparation and turnover of records. -Verify formwork construction for alignment, dimensions, material suitability, and cleanliness before concrete placement. -Verify testing activities are performed in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan. -Conduct surveillance of construction activities performed by subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards. -Ensure proper use of calibrated equipment during inspections and testing activities. -Perform material inspections to confirm compliance to Purchase Order, Code, and Standard requirements. -Inspect rebar placement for size, spacing, cover, cleanliness, and proper support in accordance with drawings and specifications. -Provide technical mentorship to junior QA/QC personnel and field staff. -Complete all associated records to document the status and results of performed inspections. -Execute QA/QC inspections on-site, ensuring compliance with design specifications, construction drawings, applicable codes, and contract documents. -Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality checklists, and control procedures. -Maintain accurate and up-to-date inspection records, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action plans.

What You Bring

-Working knowledge of CSA A23.1 and CSA A23.2 standards and other applicable building regulations. -ACI/CCIL certification is considered an asset. -Proven experience with inspection and testing of concrete, rebar, and formwork. -Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related discipline. -Previous experience with inspection and testing of concrete. -Minimum 3–5 years of experience in QA/QC inspection roles within civil construction -Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying potential issues. -Proficiency in digital tools such as MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint, and quality management software. -Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and interface with stakeholders at all levels. -Extended periods of standing, walking, and working in active construction zones. -Understand and interpret technical drawings for civil works. -Thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications, standards, and materials testing procedures. -The role is primarily based in a project site trailer and requires frequent visits to active construction areas, which may involve entering confined or difficult-to-access spaces.
