The Role

Overview

Assist with project estimating, take-offs, and bid preparation as a co‑op student.

Tasks

-Assist in the preparation of bid proposals, including organizing and compiling all relevant estimating information. -Conduct take-offs from project drawings and develop material and labor quantity estimates. -Stay up to date with industry trends, construction technologies, and best practices in estimating. -Assist in maintaining and updating cost databases, historical data, and estimating resources to ensure accuracy and consistency in estimating practices. -Utilize estimating software and tools to prepare detailed cost estimates, including labor, materials, subcontractor quotes, and other project costs. -Support the estimating team in tracking and reporting on project bids, opportunities, and market trends. -Participate in departmental and project meetings to provide input and support on estimating-related matters. -Review project plans, specifications, and related documents to gain an understanding of project scope and requirements. -Collaborate with senior estimators and project managers to review and analyze bids and proposals for accuracy and competitiveness.

What You Bring

-You will complete at least one more semester of education following your internship and possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher -Sense of urgency and strong commitment to achieving goals -Residency, or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Bird Construction or one of our wholly owned subsidiaries -All applications must include a current transcript -Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently -Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude -Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships -You are currently enrolled in a relevant degree program such as Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or equivalent program -If you are selected for a role with client specific requirements, you may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment Medical and/or Alcohol & Drug testing. -Highly developed interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
