Tasks

-Adhere to the safety program and look out for the safety of others, promptly communicating and mitigating safety hazards. -Assist with cultural resource records searches, laboratory analysis tasks, and other office work, as needed. -Assist with conducting archaeological fieldwork (including pedestrian survey, site identification, site recording / data collection, monitoring and data recovery excavations). -Accurately identify historic and prehistoric artifacts and features. -Work as a productive member of a team and follow the direction of the field supervisor. -Conduct fieldwork for long hours in various environments including, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and rugged terrain.

What You Bring

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking temporary Cultural Resources Technicians for our Las Vegas and Reno offices to assist on projects based throughout the state. The schedule requires extensive travel subject to variable hours and schedules. This position is an hourly, non-exempt, and temporary position. -High school diploma or equivalent and 6 months of relevant experience. -An accredited Field School, preferred. -Bachelor’s degree or higher in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field, preferred. -Able to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and be able to hike up to eight miles a day. -Must have a valid driver's license, the ability to pass a Motor Vehicle background screening, and have access to reliable transportation. -Must be located in Nevada or an adjoining state. -Available for fieldwork on local projects and for fieldwork requiring extended travel (staying in a hotel or camping for up to ten days at a time). -Experience with a range of field methodologies; including survey, testing, excavation, and heavy equipment or ground disturbing activity monitoring is preferred.

SWCA’s Las Vegas Cultural team has an array of upcoming field projects that include intensive pedestrian survey, visual effects analysis, construction and exploration monitoring, and historical research. Candidates will participate as part of 3-5 person teams during survey and 1-2 person groups during monitoring. Standard field sessions last for eight 10-hour days with up to six days off in between. Field session lengths may vary from project to project. SWCA pays travel time to and from the project, hotel and camping fees, and per diem for each day of fieldwork. SWCA supplies all field documentation tools and materials, and personal protective equipment when necessary; however, field personnel must supply their gear (boots, backpack, field clothing, etc.). SWCA also supplies vehicles for travel and fieldwork. Personal vehicles may be used to travel to a project area but may not be used for conducting fieldwork (some exceptions may apply). A Cultural Resources Technician in this Nevada-based position can expect an hourly rate of $19.31 - $25.49/hr. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
