The Role

Overview

Design and support electrical systems for hydropower projects.

Tasks

-Support inspections and condition assessments of existing facilities. -Work independently on small projects projects -Conduct equipment and contractor bid evaluations. -Perform routine engineering assignments, with instruction from the Project Engineer or others regarding the expected results. -Developing design deliverables including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, and AC and DC systems calculations and sizing. -Conduct analyses to develop design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of cost estimates and specifications. Contact vendors to solicit information and indicative pricing. -Write/edit electrical specifications and select equipment, electrical systems and devices. -Support feasibility studies or conceptual designs for new or expanded projects. Write technical reports, findings documents, and meeting notes. -Coordinate with and assist affected disciplines with addenda, RFIs, CPRs and change orders, and take responsibility to incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents -Working with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements. -Perform performance testing of hydro turbine equipment. -Performing site visits during the design, construction, and as-built phases of projects. -Provide owner’s engineering support for equipment overhauls, rebuilds and new equipment installation. -Provide QC checks and reviews of spreadsheets, calculations, drawings, and reports. -Review electrical documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines

What You Bring

-Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field -Engineer intern (EI)/ Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate. Candidates without their EI will be titled “Electrical Designer” and will be expected to obtain their EI for career progression. -Bachelor's degree in Engineering -Recent graduates will be considered. -Computer skills in Microsoft Office -Previous internship experience with a concentration in a power related field. -Strong communication skills. -Strong time management skills. -Local candidates preferred.
