The Role

Overview

Construct, maintain & troubleshoot overhead/underground power lines safely.

Tasks

-Install and maintain poles, structures, transformers, regulators, sectionalizers, capacitors, switches, reclosers and cutouts for power lines; install conductors and associated apparatus using single, three and multi circuit construction methods -Build, operate, and complete overhead and underground work on energized primary and secondary systems -Work in compliance with all health, safety and environmental legislations -Fosters an environment that prioritizes innovation and ongoing enhancement -Attend training as required to update and review knowledge -Install various types of metering equipment -Organize and lead crews when required, and complete all necessary reports as required -Analyze drawings and sketches to determine safe operating practices -Moving equipment and/or materials -Perform on-call duties and is expected to be available to perform emergency work during outages and storms -Perform assigned capital and maintenance work, and installation, troubleshoot and restore electric power during emergencies

What You Bring

-Demonstrates excellent planning and problem-solving abilities, effectively identifying, analyzing, and resolving anomalies within systems while considering all pertinent information to make well-informed decisions -Understand and operate motorized vehicles and equipment, such as radial boom derricks, aerial devices, tension-stringing equipment and portable generators, and perform inspections and report on defects -Direct work experience as a Powerline Technician -Quality of work – work is well planned and completed accurately -Proficient in the use of equipment associated with Powerline trade -Must be able to safely lift loads of 30 lbs. -Displays keen attention to detail and can prioritize accordingly in a demanding and fast-paced environment -Valid Class DZ or AZ drivers license is an asset -Journeyperson Powerline Technician status -Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces -Standing for extended periods of time -Working in all weather conditions (cold, heat, rain, snow, wind etc.) -Frequent climbing and frequent lifting -Working outdoors and in confined spaces -Is customer centric and displays an attitude of commitment and excellence with service delivery -Able to meet the physical demands of the Powerline Technician position -Excellent interpersonal and communication skills -Demonstrated experience working with required tools -Well versed in the IHSA Safe Work practices guide and Electrical Utility Safety Rules -Able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions -Self-motivated, ability to work independently -Is a fast learner who can adapt to an ever-changing environment
