Tasks
The Senior Safety Manager will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety initiatives that ensure compliance, reduce risk, and reinforce a best-in-class safety culture across all utility construction activities. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient execution of substation and distribution construction projects. The Senior Safety Manager will be instrumental in strengthening safety culture, supporting field operations, and maintaining strong relationships with major utilities across the region. -Mentor and coach field personnel to strengthen safety ownership and hazard recognition. -Identify areas for improvement and implement proactive safety measures tailored to substation environments and high-voltage distribution work. -Support onboarding and competency assessments for new hires, subcontractors, and craft personnel. -Deliver targeted training aligned with substation and distribution work practices (LOTO, switching, electrical safe work practices, rigging, grounding, etc.). -Collaborate with project managers and construction leaders to ensure safe work planning and continuous improvement. -Develop, lead, and continuously enhance safety policies, procedures, and training programs specific to substation and distribution operations. -Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, utility-owner requirements, NESC standards, and other applicable regulations. -Conduct regular safety audits, jobsite inspections, and hazard assessments across active projects. -Lead cross-functional safety initiatives, safety stand-downs, and company-wide programs. -Serve as the primary safety liaison with Exelon utilities, co-ops, IOUs, and project partners. -Support the integration of new technology, tools, and procedures that enhance worker safety. -Provide safety leadership to project teams, field crews, subcontractors, and client stakeholders. -Participate in pre-job planning meetings, client audits, and safety expectation briefings. -Manage safety reporting, performance metrics, and documentation for both internal use and client requirements. -Lead incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action implementation.

What You Bring
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Safety Manager to oversee safety programs and field safety performance across substation construction and overhead/underground distribution projects. This role supports operations across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region, partnering closely with field leadership, project management, and utility clients—particularly Exelon and other IOUs/co-ops. -Strong working knowledge of substation construction practices, electrical hazards, grounding, and energized work protocols. -Proven ability to lead field safety across multi-site or regional project portfolios. -Familiarity with contractor management systems (ISN, Avetta) and digital safety tools. -OSHA 30 (minimum); CSP, CUSP, CHST, or equivalent certifications strongly preferred. -Previous leadership experience overseeing a regional or multi-project safety program. -7–10+ years of safety management experience in utility construction, substations, T&D, or heavy electrical infrastructure. -Experience with EPC or turnkey utility construction. -Experience working with or supporting Exelon utilities or other large IOUs. -Ability to travel regularly across Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.
