The Role

Overview

Inspect and ensure compliance of road construction projects, guide staff, conduct testing.

Tasks

-Verify that work is performed safely and in accordance with the project plans and specifications. -Perform a wide variety of standardized and non-standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing and processing field data. -Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. -Performing physical activities required of the testing and inspection procedures including squatting, bending, lifting, climbing and traversing difficult terrain. -Occasional lifting of equipment up to 60 lbs. -Examine and interpret construction plans, schedules and quantities. -Provide guidance to lower level inspectors -Support engineers in functional areas such as construction inspection, surveying and material sampling and testing.

What You Bring

-Ability to read and interpret construction plans. -Associate’s Degree in closely related discipline is preferred. -High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma required. Associates degree in a related field preferred. -The ability to attain the following certifications within 90 days +/- or as class scheduling allows: NCDOT Concrete Field Technician certification, NCDOT Conventional Density certification, Level II Erosion & Sediment Control/Stormwater certification, NCDOT QMS Roadway Technician certification, NCDOT ABC and Borrow Pit Sampling certification. -The ability to complete work assignments independently. -Ability to keep accurate records and compute field data. -7 years or greater of NCDOT roadway inspection and testing experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Engineering Interns (EI) may be eligible for this position without experience. -Good communication skills, both oral and written. -Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies -Basic computer skills. -Essential professional licensure/certification. -Engineering Interns (EI) may be eligible for this position with less than the required years of experience.
