Tasks

-Represent the safety department in all interactions with other departments, the JPB and external parties and maintain consistent safety messaging with those entities. -Maintain strong relationships with all department managers to understand their operational needs and expectations. -Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs. -Responsible for investigating safety concerns reported through the Safety Hotline and Hazard Reporting platform, ensuring appropriate action and follow-up are completed in a timely manner. -Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force. -Attend construction meetings and other meetings related to work along the right of way. -Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis. -Assist in internal accident/incident investigations, ensure the applicable department is completing incident reports, identify root cause, and follow up with corrective actions, preventative measures. -Advise internal and external parties of safety activities within their respective projects. -Participate in Safety Committee meetings and monitor the status and resolution of open action items. -Document and report all activities in a timely manner. -Ensure compliance with applicable safety and operating rules and federal regulations. -Audit work sites regularly for compliance with RWP and OTS rules and regulations. -Perform monthly safety and compliance audits, including but not limited to facility inspections, site visits, employee engagement initiatives, and train ride evaluations. Document identified hazards and ensure timely follow-up with relevant managers to address findings and implement corrective actions. -Participate in Part 217 efficiency testing, including but not limited to joint testing and testing with FRA/CPUC/regulatory agencies. -Implement TASI standards, rules, and processes in response to regulatory requirements (e.g., FRA Safety Advisories) and in response to corrective actions from internal investigations. -Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.

What You Bring

-Five years’ experience in a safety-sensitive position, with at least one year in the railroad industry preferred. -Excellent organizational, customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills. -Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review. -Computer proficiency, including by not limited to Microsoft Office and web-based applications. -Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position. -Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery. -Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position. -Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet). -Knowledge of continuous improvement policies and procedures. -Experience in railroad construction and maintenance or maintenance of equipment. -OSHA certification in construction or Transit System Safety certification preferred. -Ability to work all shifts; evenings, nights and on the weekends. -Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position. -Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position. -Regularly kneel, bend, and squat. -Working knowledge of standard railroad rules and operating practices, particularly roadway worker protection and on-track safety rules. -Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and at all organizational levels. -High School diploma or equivalent. -Knowledge of American Public Transportation Association standards, while working in an electrified territory is preferred. -Able to walk on uneven surfaces. -Maintain a valid driver's license and endorsements as required per position. -Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position. -Work effectively as a team member with other members of management and the human resources staff. -Ability to be on call in the evenings and on weekends on a rotating basis.
