The Role

Tasks

-Provide technical consultation and guidance on protection schemes, relay settings, and system protection coordination. -Participate in client meetings, technical reviews, and project presentations. -Lead all aspects of substation physical and P&C engineering design for high voltage (4kV – 230kV) and extra-high voltage (EHV, above 230kV) projects. -Conduct thorough quality assurance and control (QA/QC) reviews of team deliverables to uphold WSB’s standards. -Collaborate closely with internal teams (civil, structural) and external stakeholders to coordinate design activities and resolve technical issues. -Oversee development of detailed design documents including general arrangements, one-line and three-line diagrams, grounding and lightning plans, AC/DC calculations, control and protection schematics, equipment specifications, and construction documentation. -Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth. -Identify team strengths and gaps; design and implement training and coaching plans to enhance technical capabilities. -Support procurement and construction phases through submittal reviews and technical clarifications. -Assist in proposal development, project estimating, and strategic planning to grow the substation engineering portfolio. -Serve as a primary technical point of contact for clients on complex projects, understanding client needs and aligning engineering solutions accordingly. -Manage multiple concurrent projects to ensure timely, and high-quality delivery of engineering scopes.

What You Bring

-Ability to travel as required for project site visits and client meetings. -Minimum 8-10 years of progressive experience in high voltage substation design, covering both physical and protection & control disciplines. -Expertise in NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and other relevant codes and standards for substation engineering. -Proven experience managing and leading engineering teams, including mentoring and training engineers. -Experience with proposal writing, project scheduling, and budgeting preferred. -Familiarity with relay settings, SCADA systems, and substation communication protocols. -Strong verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to interface effectively with clients and project teams. -Professional Engineering (PE) license required. -Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution. -This position may require occasional travel to project sites or client offices. -Proficiency with AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, and engineering analysis tools such as CDEGS or WinIGS.
