  • Perform/supervise load ratings on bridges of various type size and complexity
  • Perform/supervise calculations and analysis for designing bridge and transportation structures using various bridge design software programs
  • Review calculations and design details developed by others
  • Develop solutions to challenges presented by the client within budget, schedule and project constraints
  • Provide oversight and direction to junior engineering staff
  • Attend meeting with clients and other professionals and organizations
  • Review shop drawings and other construction related submittals
  • Organize and maintain project files

  • Valid Professional Engineering Licensure (P.E.) in Florida
  • Skilled in the use of MicroStation and AutoCAD, experience with OpenBridge Designer a plus
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines.
  • 10 - 15 years of engineering experience in bridge design
  • Post-tensioned concrete design experience a plus
  • Technical expertise for the layout & design of bridges and related highway structures
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation of existing bridges and highway structures
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Master of Engineering preferred, but not required
  • Extensive experience utilizing FDOT specific processes, manuals, or guidance on bridge projects is required, 10 years minimum
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and other pertinent bridge design specifications
  • A satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR).
