Manage market risk for a regional power portfolio, monitoring limits and analyzing P&L impacts

Tasks

-The individual will play a key role in assisting the desk manager in overseeing market risks of a regional Power Portfolio by identifying market risk drivers, analyzing and quantifying risk levels and changes, and understanding PNL impacts driven by price moves, portfolio position changes, and evolving market dynamics. -The individual will identify and communicate potential risk concentrations, limit exceedances and large exposures to Commercial and Risk management. -Enforce Adherence to trading limits and market risk policies and procedures. -Use quantitative methods to develop new frameworks and perform ad-hoc analyses for risk limits and guidelines as required by business activity, market events, or changes in risk appetite. -Provide daily update of risks and positions for specified region(s) including significant changes. -Establish and improve an active dialogue with portfolio managers to understand and quantify emergent market risks and hedge strategies. -Prepare analysis for the Risk Management Committee meeting and other special/ad hoc analysis for various management meetings. -Raise potential issues to Market Risk Management. -Calculate risk metrics, streamline and automate calculations wherever possible while maintaining high standards of quality. -The individual will help develop and monitor compliance with predefined risk limits. They will measure and analyze changes in risk positions and distributions, perform portfolio sensitivities, and track option Greeks and other risk metrics. They will also work with the desk manager and the commercial team on strategies to minimize downside and optimize profitability. -The individual will be the primary liaison between the Market Risk Group and the regional trading desk they support. They will become subject matter experts on the unique makeup of the portfolio and will be responsible for the day-to-day risk monitoring. Build effective relationship with Wholesale Trading while maintaining an un-biased perspective.

What You Bring

-Experience with VBA, PowerBI, Python, Matlab, or SQL. -Understanding energy related contracts. -Knowledge of the energy markets. -The position will appeal to an individual who is a strong communicator and can balance the complexity of in-depth analysis with the ability to communicate and strategize with their commercial counterparts on best ways to optimize the risk/reward ratio of their respective regional portfolio. They must thrive in a fast-paced team environment and is interested in contributing to achieving business success in a rapidly changing and challenging area of the energy industry. -Minimum 2-year related experience including at least 1 year of experience in energy or financial product risk management. -Strong verbal and written communication skills with an ability to work with and add value to the business and to present findings to senior management. -Bachelor's degree with related major and excellent academic background. -Demonstrated ability to respond quickly and decisively in a fast-changing environment to challenge the status quo and the confidence to independently challenge trades with perceived excessive risk is required. -Knowledge of relevant systems, processes and practices. -Strong analytical problem solving and data analysis skills, with attention to detail. -Experienced in Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI. -Strong organization and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and adapt to the changing needs of the business. -Good understanding of price and volumetric risk as they relate to hedging load and generation positions. -Highly motivated, self-starter with ability to lead, work independently and/or participate as a team member on multi-part projects with little oversight. -The individual will develop intimate knowledge of the energy industry, with emphasis on the physical operations and market rules of the respective regions. They will know the generation assets, customer load/deals and key structured transactions in the respective regions and their impacts on the overall portfolio. -An advance degree in Finance, Economics, MBA or Engineering. -Strong knowledge of statistics, financial modeling, and options theory.
