The Role

Overview

Develop accurate cost estimates for mechanical piping and equipment projects.

Tasks

-Participate in cost/pricing reviews with executive leadership as required. -Review estimates for accuracy and inclusion of all deliverables. -Prepare detailed material take-offs, perform historical trend analysis and validate bills of quantities. -Under general supervision, the individual competently performs all aspects of developing a preliminary or definitive estimate for pipe fabrication/installation/mechanical equipment installation utilizing company owned software/spreadsheets. -Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. -Attend bid meetings and site visits to derive a scope of work, deliverables, etc. as required. -Performs own work and aids others as directed. -Performs other responsible duties as required to support new project development and support of ongoing jobs. -Recommends and incorporates labor production and material cost decisions into the estimate. -Revises estimates when scope of project changes or other new information becomes available. -Uses various systems and software, including In-Eight estimate and various Microsoft Products to analyze data and prepare estimate recommendations.

What You Bring

-Strong written and verbal communications skills. -Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done. -Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies. -High School or equivalent education + field experience -Understands estimate types (Lump Sum, T&M, Fixed Fee, Budgetary, Unit Rates, Unit Price). -Can manage multiple tasks, projects and priorities in a logical, methodical manner. -The ability and willingness to work under tight time restraints. -Strong organizational and time management skills. -Ability to work in a group environment and willingness to share knowledge and learn from others. -Passed the Engineering in Training (EIT) exam or Professional Engineer -Strong communications skills, specifically in reading/writing as it relates to Estimating. -Strong knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Excel/Word. -Ability to interact with customers, vendors and inter-company personnel on a professional level. -4-7 years of experience working in the Industrial Construction or Maintenance industry as a craft worker. (Piping or millwright related) -Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or construction related science -The ability to travel for bid meetings and site visits (normally 1 to 2 days). -The ability to work independently as well as part of a team. -Willingness to work in an office environment on a 40-hour per week work schedule. -Ability to compile material and labor take-offs and solicit/evaluate pricing from vendors and suppliers.
