Tasks
VMG is looking for a Preconstruction Manager who is ready to lead the estimating process, driving competitive bids, and rolling directly into project execution. This role is not just about handing off the work; it’s about owning it from day one through delivery. You’ll partner with our operations team to ensure projects are set up for success, while keeping your hands on the details that matter. -Track and analyze project costs to ensure accurate forecasting and lessons learned for future bids. -Actively engage with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to develop strong relationships and competitive pricing strategies. -Stay actively involved during construction — maintaining visibility and accountability for scope, budget, and execution. -Partner with operations to transition projects seamlessly from preconstruction into construction. -Lead the preconstruction process from conceptual budgets to final GMP. -Manage design-build and design-assist pursuits, working closely with engineers and consultants. -Prepare, review, and deliver accurate and competitive estimates and bids.

What You Bring
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and has strong mechanical construction knowledge. -Excellent communication and negotiation skills. -Comfortable balancing detailed takeoffs with big-picture strategy. -Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems. -Ability to work cross-functionally with project managers, field teams, and executives. -Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite. -Proven track record of bidding and securing work in the commercial construction market. -7+ years of experience in mechanical construction, with at least 3 years in preconstruction or estimating.
