The Role

Provides operational HR support, onboarding, compliance, DOT DER backup, and employee engagement.

Tasks

-Coordinate pre-employment and occupational health processes, including background checks, medical and drug testing, and communication of results to internal stakeholders. -Participates in performance review cycles, exit interviews, and organizational chart updates, ensuring accurate documentation and timely completion of required actions. -Provides backup support for Designated Employer Representative (DER) functions, including 24/7 rotating phone coverage and coordination with drug and alcohol testing service agents for compliance with DOT and company policies. -Coordinates and facilitates new hire onboarding and orientation sessions on a rotating basis and assist with new hire class coordination, including class logistics, I-9 documentation, and completion of compliance requirements. -Monitors and tracks new hire compliance steps using multiple third-party systems and assist with the resolution of payroll overpayment issues. -Supports the implementation and communication of employee engagement and recognition programs, including service awards, peer recognition, milestone celebrations, and company-wide events. -Partners with HR leadership and the events Coordinator to ensure smooth execution of engagement initiatives and assist with tracking participation and gathering employee feedback for continuous improvement. -Assists in managing HR transactions such as unemployment claims, employee records maintenance, compliance documentation, and contractor assignment tracking. -Serves as the first point of contact for employees, responding to HR inquiries through service channels and supporting the administration of key HR processes, policies, and systems. -Supports the administration of employee leave programs (FMLA, ADA, personal, medical, parental, military), working closely with the Leave Administrator to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company policies.

What You Bring

-HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP) -Office deskwork, requiring sitting, walking, and regular use of phone and computer -5% or more travel expected -Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with employment recordkeeping. -Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs. -Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. -Experience in fast-paced environments, railroads, transportation, heavy construction, or similar industries -Problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement. -Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Teams. -DER Certification under DOT 49 CFR Part 40 -3+ years of human resources experience with demonstrated knowledge of federal and state employment laws, audit practices, and DOT regulations. -Familiarity with FRA Part 219, Drug & Alcohol Testing Rules -High level of accuracy and attention to detail. -Bachelor’s degree in human resources, psychology, business management, international business, or a related field. -Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. -Strong work ethic aligned with Loram’s mission and values. -Strong written and verbal communication skills. -Ability to tolerate variable and sometimes challenging conditions during site visits or inspections of company equipment in a railroad environment
