The Role

Tasks

-Develop and implement lean process improvements to reduce variable costs. -Create and optimize routing manifests to meet customer delivery commitments. -Develop and lead driver training programs and yearly recertifications. -Ensure compliance with DOT regulations and internal safety standards. -Implement measurable training procedures and maintain SOPs for all transportation roles. -Hire, train, certify, and develop direct reports; conduct annual driver certifications and periodic meetings. -Build cross-functional relationships to enhance customer service and reduce costs. -Track employee safety performance and conduct root cause analysis for incidents. -Monitor and maintain fleet utilization, out-of-service reports, and preventative maintenance schedules. -Partner with Sales to meet delivery requirements and resolve issues. -Support both short term and long-term projects related to performance of transportation department -Review and resolve issues related to lost shipments, missed deliveries, and time commitments. -Collaborate with Shop Steward on union contract matters. -Maintain strong communication with drivers, warehouse, and sales teams. -Track and manage transportation KPIs including cost, safety, and service metrics. -This job is performed primarily in general office and distribution warehouse environments. -Ensure all staff have necessary tools and resources to perform their roles effectively. -Participate in monthly ride-along with drivers. -Lead a 24/5 transportation team including dispatchers, drivers, warehouse, and administrative staff. -Maintain weekly driver hours and facilitate open communication.

What You Bring

-Understanding of contractual bargaining agreements is required. -Ability to plan work effectively to completion and adjust as business needs change -Ability to work in a face paced environment -Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications -The ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout their shift. -Strong knowledge of Fleet Maintenance. -Availability to work any shift of 24 hr. 5 days a week operation as needed -The ability to utilize hands to enter data by traditional keyboard. -The ability to lift, push, and pull material and objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and heavier weights with proper equipment. -Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. -Understanding and experience with GPS tracking. -Excellent organization and Communication skills -Ability to identify and correct delivery and performance issues quickly -Bachelor’s degree preferred with emphasis on business management and/or supply chain or equivalent knowledge through job-related experience and training. -Experience in building and managing SOP’s -3 to 5 years prior experience managing in a union environment. -The ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform various duties. -The ability to operate powered industrial trucks safely. Training will be provided.
