Tasks

-Exercise discretion and independent judgement when handling day to day information -Inspect, clean, maintain and repair equipment -Drives machine in successive overlapping passes over surfaces to be compacted, rolling subgrade and asphalt to desired compaction and smoothness -Constantly perform repeating motions that may include feet, leg, wrists, hands and/or fingers -Control traffic flow -Distribute, break down, compress, and give a finished surface to cooling asphalt -Ensure compliance of all safety procedures and policies while promoting the company’s safety culture -Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow, and indicate low spots for workers to add material -Perform daily maintenance and safety checks -Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices -Light burners or start heating units of machines and regulate screed temperatures and asphalt flow rates

What You Bring

-Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools needed in construction of highways and roadways -Knowledge of asphalt paver/roller and other heavy equipment -Ability to complete work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail -Work that includes moving and/or lifting objects up to 50 pounds, carry at least 30 pounds and up to 150 pounds with help. -Ability to work outdoors, exposed to heat and humidity, cold and rain, and around heavy traffic areas -At least 3 years’ experience with asphalt, highway, paving, bridge, sewer, and road construction -Excellent time-management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and adjust to changing priorities -Ability and willingness to travel as required -Ability to work cooperatively across all levels delivering on commitments – results oriented -Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of highways, roads, sewers, and bridges -Ability to operate job related tools -Excellent verbal and written communication skills -High School Diploma or GED required -Ability to work under pressure to meet department targets and deadlines -Ability to work non-routine hours, when necessary
