The Role

Overview

Design and analyze steel structures and foundations for high‑voltage substation projects.

Tasks

-Execute structural engineering tasks for a variety of substation structural members such as rolled steel shapes, lattice steel framing, and folded plate tubular steel shapes. Engineering duties include detailed design, calculations, and detailing for fabrication or development of loading and concept drawings for submittal to a steel fabricator to design and fabricate. -Execute foundation design tasks for substation structures, including drilled piers, spread footings, driven piles, and potentially other types, using industry standard software. -Support physical substation layout designs, plans, elevations/sections, details, and associated bills of materials. -Prepare and /or review specifications for construction & materials. -Working with Designers and CADD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements. -Performing site visits during the design, construction and asbuilt phases of projects.

What You Bring

-Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams in multiple office locations. -Ability to work independently and as part of a team. #LIEV1 -Experience using industry standard design software, including STAAD, RISA, MFAD, LPile, or Equivalent. -Good verbal and written communication skills. -Experience using industry standard design software, including PLSTower and Mathcad Prime. -Willingness to obtain PE license and SE license. -Selfstarter with strong written and verbal communication skills. -Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate. (Candidates without their EIT will be placed in a Design Coordinator job code and will be expected to obtain their EIT for career progression) -2+ years of technical design experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity, including foundation and steel structural design. -Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills. -Familiarity with the latest NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, ASCE113, AISC360, ASCE7, ACI318, and other industry standards. -Ability to support multiple projects concurrently, with teams in different locations. -Technical design experience with physical/outdoor design of high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500kV.
