  • Ensures machines run in a safe and efficient manner by adding attachments, aligning pieces, securing fixtures, or replacing broken or dull parts.
  • Ensures work pieces are lubricated and cooled correctly throughout machine operation.
  • Maintains, cleans, and repairs machines.
  • Adheres to all safety rules and guidelines.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, diagrams, and other project specifications, then identifies and inputs the commands and data needed for computer-controlled machinery to manufacture the tools, parts, or products required.
  • Safely operates equipment designed to move, roll, press, or cut plate steel.
  • Monitors control panel displays and machine operation and detects malfunctions and errors by comparing readings to actual specifications.
  • Calculates the proper speed and feed ratios for machines, as well as the size and position of cuts necessary.
  • Corrects production errors or machine malfunctions by conferring with supervisors and programmers; obtains approval to continue production after correction is made.
  • Measures finished pieces with precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure they meet order specifications.
  • Adjusts cutting programs as needed during operation; saves revised versions of programs as needed for future use.
  • Adhere to Maguire Iron’s PPE Policy and Safety Programs.

  • Must be able to work outside in both a hot and cold environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
  • Some experience operating computerized machines preferred.
  • Working understanding of computers.
  • Ability to work with ladders, catwalks and in confined spaces.
  • Uses hoists, crane, or personal strength to lift work pieces to machines.
  • Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Recognizes when automatic programming is faulty, or when the machine is malfunctioning or in need of maintenance, and modifies feed, speed, cutting tools, or controls of the machine to correct the issue.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to self-diagnose and problem solve.
  • Ability to read blueprints and measuring devices.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
  • Ability to operate highly technical machinery and basic hand tools.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking.
  • Thorough understanding of the robotic or computer-operated machinery to be used.
  • Experience operating a forklift, heavy equipment, and overhead cranes preferred.
