Tasks

-Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring readiness and compliance. -Document and maintain complete sample traceability with accurate reporting. -The responsibilities of this role require daily attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly. -Ensure compliance with safety protocols, ISO/ASTM/SAE standards, and laboratory procedures. -Partner with suppliers to evaluate materials against company specifications and industry standards. -Prepare and communicate technical reports for engineering, supplier quality, and manufacturing teams. -Support root cause analysis, material defect investigations, and corrective action plans. -Perform and oversee laboratory testing on automotive materials (metals, plastics, leathers, paint, composites) and components. -Conduct and interpret standardized quality tests (tensile, impact, corrosion, vibration, fatigue).

-Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time. -Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams. -High school diploma or equivalent required. -Ability to stand for extended periods while conducting lab work. -Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required, approximately 10-20% of the time. -Experience in materials testing or quality assurance (automotive or manufacturing preferred). -Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals and paints. -Residing in San Francisco: Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, Scout Motors will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records. -Valid driver's license required. -Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Materials Science, Chemistry, Engineering) or equivalent laboratory experience required. -This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC then transitioning to Blythewood, SC. -Residing in New York City: This role is not eligible for remote work in New York City. -Strong communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with stakeholders. -Strong knowledge of automotive and manufacturing quality standards (ISO, ASTM, SAE). -Hands-on expertise with testing methods (tensile, fatigue, impact, corrosion). -Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data analysis/reporting tools. -Ability to lift and move test samples/equipment as needed. -Residing in Los Angeles: Scout Motors will consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories in a manner consistent with the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance. -Analytical mindset with attention to detail and accuracy. -Passport required -Chemistry background or laboratory chemistry experience strongly preferred. -Travel: Domestic and international travel required, approximately 10-20% of the time. About Scout Motors Inc.
