Overview

Construction engineer overseeing field coordination, inspections, and reporting on civil projects

Tasks

-Perform complex construction assignments exercising judgment in evaluation, selection and modification of standard construction engineering techniques and procedures -Compose reports with a daily log of activities, personnel, and pictures to send to clients daily -Conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses for civil projects related to civil infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, class 1 railroad projects, buildings, facilities, water/wastewater facilities, pump stations and pipelines (including electrical, mechanical/HVAC and site civil) -Conduct project field coordination, documentation, cost monitoring, bidding and scheduling -Utilize survey equipment to check and confirm construction -Monitor, record, and inspect progress on construction projects -Participate in client development and project pursuits, and receive general supervision from the Senior Inspector who reviews work while in progress -Work outdoors and navigate construction sites in all seasons -Receive, issue and track RFIs, submittals and other required data -Exercise good judgment and discretion, and independently resolve problems and issues -Conduct or Coordinate field materials sampling and testing, including concrete slump and air testing, casting concrete test cylinders, and performing inplace soil compaction testing

What You Bring

-This position requires successfully passing drugscreening procedures prior to being hired; thereafter subject to random and cause drug and alcohol testing -Plan/Detail reading -Freight Rail Experience and/or DOT Experience -Knowledge or Rail materials and safety requirements -Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with applicable state law -Cost analysis experience pertaining to construction -Understanding of Project Management principles -General accounting knowledge -Ability to interpret construction schedules -Work may require 50% to 100% travel to meetings, site visits, and inspections outside of the Kansas City area -Inspection Certifications -Be eager to learn, ask questions, work under and receive direction and supervision from Resident Project Representatives, and Project Managers -A minimum of 3 years’ experience in construction engineering -PDF editing software such as Revu Bluebeam -Demonstrated experience in construction and/or construction inspection of Heavy civil infrastructure for DOT, freight or passenger Railroads -Experience with Steel Structures & Foundations DPG, Trusses, & TPG
