Overview
Manages data center capacity, designs layouts, and optimizes space, power, and cooling.

Tasks
-Participates by presenting at internal and/or external engineering or construction related seminars/conferences -Interactions are primarily to exchange information between departments within the organization -Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops team to perform root cause analysis, proposes solutions to issues and produces lessons learnt for future reference) -Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments -Executes effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation -Assists in directing external vendors per project or initiatives such general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc. -Supports in mentoring junior team members -Ensures that AutoCAD drawings and capacity systems correctly represent existing status of the data center within a moderate scope -Provides feedback on policies and procedures -May include executive level communications in standardized templates -Shadows manager in the training and development of new staff -Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to identify power and cooling limitations, discuss potential modifications and develop solutions to overcome limitations -Performs complex maintenance and repairs on engineering systems, and develops SOWs for complex engineering system maintenance, replacement, design and construction projects -Works with site operations to address discrepancies with documentation of facility infrastructure and installation of customer cages within a moderate scope -Assists in leading and managing projects or other design and engineering initiatives -Creates numbering plans for new sites, compiling inventory list, and preparing the drawings files used to track assignments -Identifies and make corrections as necessary -Produces developed drawings and space plans for use by Sales, Site Operation and other teams -Supports in directing all internal and external project team members -Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems -Participates in review of policy and procedure documents -Provides project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations -Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others -Identifies and leads the investigation of moderate data issues with the support of senior staff -Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and Data Center physicals -Compiles as-built underground utility drawings as required to create a comprehensive record drawing for each site within a moderate scope -Creates spatial layouts of each customer cage which are used by the other capacity teams for their reviews, and by the Sales Engineers and site teams for customer installations -Drawing and inventory preparation, which may be reviewed by more senior members

What You Bring
-Is a subject matter expert to others in the group (i.e., a single going to person for a specific topic/system) -Expert level communication to include cross functional SOP development and relevant technical writing -Has an expert level system knowledge -Typically has 5+ years in data center capacity planning electrical system design, operations, maintenance -Is SME with some systems and trains others inside and outside of the group -Utilizes safe working practices at an expert level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tag out, can explain MSDS, etc.) -Engineering Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience. Preference for Electrical Engineering Bachelor's Degree -Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training and shadowing others -Demonstrated AutoCAD or CAD software experience -Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures to resolve non-routine issues (i.e., understands the historical background of how equipment settings were standardized and recommend changes to settings when an issue occurs which requires a setting to be changed)
