Tasks

-Engage appropriate internal and external organizations to accomplish required tasks. -Proposes solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways. -Have the ability to perform a cost analysis to determine the most cost-effective and efficient manner of the placement of communications facilities. -Perform engineering activities to implement existing fiber network maintenance, site surveys and relocation projects. Implement projects that maximize network reliability using cost effective solutions. -Prepares detailed cost analysis, project specifications, spend forecasts, route mapping, requisitions, and business justifications. -Leads large scale projects, driving productivity through use of vendor resources to meet deliverables. -Work with state/local/federal DOT and the various utilities to plan the necessary telecom relocation plan. Working with DOT schematics, visit the “field,” document the current telecom facilities, and design the “solution” plan in concert with the DOT plans. -Coordinate project activities with external contractors, engineering firms, developers, municipalities and consultants. -Perform engineering activities related to building and expanding fiber network. Oversee project engineering design, implementation and testing of new fiber builds that maximize network reliability using cost effective solutions. -OSP staking, work order package preparation including but not limited to field notes, cut sheets, schematics, and acquiring permits and private rights-of-way.

What You Bring

*This is a remote work position however candidate must reside in the area as field visits are required as needed. Stalcup & Associates LLC seeks a skilled OSP Engineer. The position requires a working-level knowledge of fiber network OSP engineering, including OSP Design for new fiber projects and public ROW relocation projects. The successful candidate is responsible for working with clients and municipalities, identifying conflicts and resolutions for road moves, and by designing an OSP telecommunications network (aerial and buried) per client specifications. Requires High school degree and 3-5+ years of job-related experience or degree in related field. A combination of education and applicable work experience may be acceptable. -Knowledge of outside plant activities (fiber cable design; aerial/pole line, buried and underground design/construction) -In-depth knowledge of fiber optic engineering principles, OSP construction practices and industry standards. -In-depth knowledge of OSP network design and GPON networks preferred. -Strong computer skills and working experience with MS Office and Google applications. -Receives general instruction, otherwise performs independently with minimal supervision, exercising latitude to achieve daily objectives and approaches to critical/complex assignments. -Proven ability to read and understand DOT schematics, identify conflicts with existing outside plant facilities, and select routing of lines and equipment required for projects -Strong leadership and project management skills. -Working knowledge of right-of-way property rights and permit acquisition. -Strong vendor management skills working with OSP construction and engineering firms. -Knowledge of general city, county, state, and road move design application processes is preferred -A solid and diverse fielding background -Knowledge permitting with state and local municipalities -Knowledge of creating and working with MS Excel worksheets required. -Knowledge of steps involved in working OSP projects from design and permitting to construction, fiber splicing and optical testing. -Recognizes vulnerabilities in network infrastructure and makes intelligent decisions to ensure reliability – within financial constraints. -Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, cell phone, laptop. -Excellent oral, written, and listening skills. Capable of interacting with customers and co-workers at all levels including executives. -3-5+ years of experience in fiber-optic/telecommunications/telecom engineering and design including Road Move Projects. -Detail oriented, well organized, and effective in multi-tasking.
