Design and develop new overhead door products, prototype, test, and lead NPD from concept to launch.
-Implement new products into existing system via engineering change order process -Develop engineering standards and calculations to govern infinitely variable designs for implementation into ERP system -Independently manage time and prioritize tasks -Develop and design new parts and complete systems related to coiling overhead doors -Maintain positive customer, vendor, and coworker relationships -Validate designs for conformance to various structural and life safety codes and standards as required (ASCE, IBC, UL, etc.) through engineering evaluations and calculations -Use Autodesk Inventor to design and layout part and assembly drawings and apply standard drafting practices -Work with technician to develop prototypes -Develop installation instructions -Oversee and/or perform assembly and testing of engineering prototypes -Work with Strategic Marketing to develop project scope and product specifications, from function to aesthetics. -Lead multidisciplinary team to follow Phase Gate process to take new products from idea to market release - ensure organization is ready to support and manufacture new products -Interact with manufacturing from design to production.
Experience with plastics design, analysis and manufacturing methods Knowledge and application of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Vault Experience in the door, access control, actuation, or building products industries A minimum 5 years of experience Proficient with 3D Solid Modeling using Inventor 5+ years of experience within Mechanical Engineering PE license and/or master’s degree in mechanical engineering Proficiency with hand tools and basic power tools Ability to convey complex, three-dimensional mechanical system to technical and non-technical personnel Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering Knowledge of FEA software Proven track record in design and specification of sheet metal structures, motors, controls, and sensing elements Experience with welding, milling, laser, casting and other modern methods of metal fabrication Experience leading development projects through launch Technical experience with design and project development, product improvements and optimization Knowledge of project management, product development and fabrication processes for optimal product design Excellent communication skills and ability to work within and lead a cross functional team -Present and communicate designs/ideas clearly to associates ranging from shop associates to executives
