Transmission Line Engineer II/III

Electric Power Engineers

The Role

Overview

Design and analysis of substation foundations, steel structures, and transmission towers.

Key Responsibilities

  • load analysis
  • pls‑cadd modeling
  • foundation design
  • steel detailing
  • construction support
  • drawing review

Tasks

-Perform seismic and wind load analysis for substation structures in compliance with applicable codes (ASCE, IEEE, and ACI). -Provide engineering support during construction, including addressing RFI (Requests for Information) and field modifications. -Utilize PLS-CADD to model transmission line profiles, analyze line clearances, and design tower spotting. -Conduct quality checks on designs and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. -Design and analyze foundations for transformers, circuit breakers, and other substation equipment. -Conduct site visits to gather data, assess conditions, and support construction as needed. -Conduct geotechnical reviews to integrate soil data into foundation designs. -Perform load calculations, stress analysis, and structural optimization for substation and transmission line components. -Design and analyze power pylons, including poles and lattice towers, for mechanical and structural integrity. -Develop foundation designs for transmission towers and poles. -Coordinate with electrical engineers to ensure optimal placement of equipment and cable trenches. -Perform conductor tension analysis and verify compliance with sag/tension requirements. -Work with industry leaders -Create and review drawings, BOMs, and construction packages for transmission lines. -Prepare detailed drawings, material specifications, and construction documents for substation civil/structural works. -Collaborate with project managers, drafters, and other engineers to deliver projects on time and within budget. -Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and changes to design codes and standards. -Perform structural design and detailing of steel structures such as bus supports, gantries, equipment stands, and control buildings. -Ensure designs meet industry codes (NESC, AISC, and IEEE) and client-specific standards.
