The Role

Overview

Operate and monitor combined cycle plant, handling startup, shutdown, water chemistry, and safety.

Tasks

-Assist with control room operations as required. -Report abnormal or irregular conditions during work processes and take corrective action within the scope of operational instructions. -Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels for equipment clearance or preparation for service. Follow operating instructions and procedures, ensuring all actions are safely tagged, tested, and documented. -Conduct routine inspections and perform tasks in accordance with the Discharge Prevention, Containment, and Countermeasures (DPCC) Plan, ensuring safe and environmentally responsible handling of hazardous materials and waste. -Perform operational tests and inspections, making minor repairs and adjustments to ensure proper equipment functionality. -Assist with the startup and shutdown of power plant systems to support smooth and efficient operations. -Operate isolated control panels for Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs), turbines, and generators, including startup and shutdown procedures. Manage major auxiliary equipment, such as air compressors, boiler feedwater treatment systems, and generator cooling systems. -Contribute to the upkeep of plant operating manuals, technical references, prints, diagrams, and preventive/predictive maintenance records. -Support maintenance personnel during unit shutdowns. -Monitor power plant operations and perform routine water chemistry analyses to ensure optimal performance. -Maintain detailed logs and provide on-the-job training to assigned personnel.

What You Bring

-Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. -Familiar with addressing operational challenges, assisting in troubleshooting, and supporting the implementation of corrective actions while adhering to safety standards and environmental regulations. -Proficiency in water chemistry control, including the analysis of water conditions, operation of water treatment systems, and safe handling of chemicals, is highly desirable. -Experience with interpreting piping and instrumentation schematics, as well as process control systems, to support power plant operations. -Prior experience in power plant operations or a similar role at an operating or generating plant, with a preference for direct experience in operating or supporting the operations of combined cycle large-frame gas turbine power plants, including startup, shutdown, and routine system inspections. -Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to assist in training and supporting team members to ensure the effective and safe operation of the plant. -Must currently possess or have the ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card upon hire. -Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times. -Possession of a New Jersey Black or Blue Seal license is preferred but not required for entry-level level 1 Auxiliary Operators. -Theoretical and practical knowledge of combustion/steam turbine operations, closed system steam generation, industrial safety, hazardous waste management, and inspection/recording of plant parameters.
