Tasks
-Prior to job startup, review with the Project Manager and Foreman the project plans and specifications. Participate in project handoffs and cost reviews. -Innovation - Generates suggestions for improving work. -Work with Project Manager/Estimator and/or other Lines of Business to schedule projects, personnel, equipment, subcontractors, and resources. -Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance. -Hire, train, and mentor new employees: participate in the 30-60-90 Training Program. Promote continuous growth of employees. -Check daily cost sheets for correctness, compliance with estimated cost, and if over budget, find out why and report to Project Manager. -Work with Project Manager/Estimator to develop and update project specific schedules. -Assist Project Managers by providing feedback on job progress and identify changes to the scope of work and if change orders are necessary. -Ensure crew timecards are turned in timely, coding is correct, equipment and labor hours are recorded accurately. -Review Plans, Specs, Work Order, Contract Documents frequently to ensure compliance. -Schedule and coordinate subcontract work and well as any necessary material testing. -Assist Project Managers by performing field measurements and determining sources. Check that job quantities & yield are correct. -Interface daily with crews to ascertain their needs, problems, and job progress. -Production performance: recommend methods to improve safety, production targets, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance. -Safety and Security - Observes safety and security procedures; Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; Reports potentially unsafe conditions; Proactive not reactive; Uses equipment and materials properly. -Provide coaching, mentoring, feedback, and promote a safe working environment for all employees. -Be the site safety champion: ensure the safety of all crew members and the public who may interact with the job. Follow and enforce company policies and procedures with all crew personnel and subcontractors. -Supervise and coordinate daily crew activities and review production schedules. -Participate as required in pre-bid and post-job meetings to evaluate performance and profitability of projects to ensure goals are attainable and met. -Work with other Grade Superintendents, Project Managers, Paving Superintendents, and Construction Manager to schedule crews effectively and efficiently based on business needs. -Participate in project meetings with contracting agencies and customers. -Communicate with customers, inspectors, and members of the public in a positive and friendly manner. -Customer Service - Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; Responds promptly to customer needs.

-Regular and timely attendance. -HEARING – corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions from coworkers -Understand and play active role in equipment transporting, scheduling, and utilization. -Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Day and night work. -Have a valid driver’s license, the ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, and have current US Authorization to work, or the ability to obtain prior to start without company assistance. -Adaptability - Adapts to changes in the work environment; Changes approach or method to best fit the situation; Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events. -Proficient with computer programs and the Microsoft Office Suite and possess the ability to quickly learn new programs and applications. -Excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work well with a wide range of personality types. -Planning/Organizing - Uses time efficiently. -CLIMBING – in, around, and on equipment -Ability to read project plans and interpret specifications. -Background in heavy civil construction to include excavation, underground utilities, grading, site work, concrete, and asphalt paving (5+ years). -Skilled in managing all aspects of multiple construction projects at a time, including personnel, scheduling, and equipment (5+ years). -Professionalism - Approaches others in a tactful manner; Reacts well under pressure; Accepts responsibility for own actions. -Dependability - Follows instructions, responds to management direction; Commits to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals. -BALANCE – including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying. -GRIP – with at least 90 lbs. of force -HEAVY LIFTING – of extremely awkward parts and equipment up to 75 lbs. from floor to waist -Strong background in construction, having progressed from a laborer to a leadership position, and possessing the ability to teach, coach, and mentor all crew members, including equipment operators, laborers, across various scopes of work. -Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time. -Judgment - Exhibits sound and accurate judgment. -VISION – 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions
